Medical M&M - Friday, May 6. 8th floor classroom & Microsoft Teams 12:00 P.M -1:00 P.M “Stage IV Sacral Decubitus Ulcer and Catheter Associated UTI” join speakers: Dr. Ryan McCarthy, Assistant Professor, WVU Medicine Internal Medicine, Adriana Garrison, MSIII, Nizmi Ponery, MSIII, & Sai Ravi, OMSIII.

1. Discuss the different types of UTIs and its management. 2. Discuss the prevention, clinical staging, and management of decubital ulcers. 3. Outline the discharge guidelines and post hospitalization care of UTI and/or decubital ulcer patients.

V-Scans – Eastern Campus has been loaned 8 ultrasound V-Scan portable machines for student use during your rotations – 2 scanners each for Family Med, Internal Med, Pediatrics, and Surgery. The units are available for checkout in the Student Services office. Please contact Michelle alderm@wvumedicine.org or Annette Jamison annette.jamison@wvumedicine.org to sign out a unit for use on rotation.

Case Logs – Be sure that your procedure logs in E-value are updated and that all your cases have been logged to date. Remember…case log completion is a requirement for passing your third-year clerkships.

Graduation – Commencement ceremony scheduled to be held in person Friday, May 13th, 7:00pm, at the Creative Arts Center in Morgantown. Arrival time: 6:15pm.   • Check your Degree Works Log on to your Degree Works page. You want to ensure that you will be meeting all Graduation requirements. This includes all courses and the 100 hours of Community Service. Please double check your own transcripts this week!

  • for Graduation beginning January 18, you must APPLY for graduation with the University. You will find the instructions to apply via STAR through the registrar’s website. Be prepared to provide a mailing address for your diploma when completing the form. You will receive an automated email once your graduation application has been approved.
  • Watch Email for More Details We will send more details, hooding information, regalia ordering, etc as we can firm up plans. This also includes Campus Match ceremonies, so please be mindful of checking your emails.

Volunteer/Community Service Opportunities

Color Me Berkeley 5k Color Run – Sunday, May 15, 2022, 9:30-11:30am, at Poor House Farm Park. Volunteers are needed to assist as first aid helpers. This would be a perfect opportunity for some of you to pick up some additional community service hours toward the 100-hour graduation requirement. Harpers Ferry Half & 5k Marathon – Saturday, May 21, 2022, MS3’s your help is needed 7a-11a, Harpers Ferry WV.

The Harpers Ferry Half races take you to scenic overlooks, through a historic Down Town where civil war ruins stand as a reminder of America’s history, up (a few hills) passing historical homes to a view overlooking the beautiful town nestled between two rivers. Community Service Hours – As part of your graduation requirement, you must complete 100 hours of community service. Please remember to document what you have already completed, and plan to start early on completing any additional hours needed, since opportunities are limited due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Sharps injury reminder for students – Should you experience an actual, possible, or “just not sure” blood or body fluid exposure, report it immediately to OR staff in the room, go to OR Charge Nurse for assistance. You will report to the ER for immediate follow-up. Must address within 2 hrs! When registering, DO NOT GIVE INSURANCE CARD, register as “WVU Student Health Guarantor Account” so it does not get charged to your insurance.
