Community Mini-Med School - “Vascular Disorders of Lower Extremities”- Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at 7:00 pm Tune in to the WVU Medicine Berkeley and Jefferson Medical Centers Facebook page. Please join WVU Medicine’s Omar Nadra, MD, Board Certified Vascular Surgeon WVU Heart & Vascular Institute, in a discussion on lower extremity vascular disorders including Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD), Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI) and Lymphoedema. Dr. Nadra will be discussing the risk factors, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment options available for these common lower extremity diseases.

OB Morbidity & Mortality – “Broad Ligament Hematoma and Extension Causing Postpartum Hemorrhage” – Monday, September 15 at 530p-800p at the HSC Multimedia Classroom & Microsoft Teams. Speakers: Scott Caldwell, MD, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Shenandoah Community Health, Garrett Riggleman, MSIII, Elizabeth Coyle, OMSIII, & Olivia Rombold, OMSIII. Objectives: 1. Discuss risk factors and surveillance of postpartum hemorrhage. 2. Review the causes of postpartum hemorrhage and management strategy by cause. 3. Review broad ligament hematoma and management.

Volunteer/Community Service Opportunities – As part of your graduation requirement, you must complete 100 hours of community service. Please remember to document what you have already completed, and plan to start early on completing any additional hours needed.

Day of Caring - September 13. In Berkeley County, Volunteers are needed for the beautification of P.O. Faulkner Park. Tasks include weeding, removing debris from tennis courts, cleaning of pavilion structure and entrance sign and a stencil painting project for the Born Learning Trail. Day of Caring is a community service project that you can participate in on work time with supervisor approval and no overtime incurred. In Jefferson County, a Jefferson project will be added if we have enough from JMC that would like to participate. Please contact dana.dejarnett@wvumedicine.org

Berkeley County BackPack Program – Helping to end child hunger in our county one backpack at a time

Their goal is to help end childhood hunger in Berkeley County one backpack at a time. No child should ever have to experience hunger and all the negative effects that accompany it. Victory is achieved each week when they are able to meet the growing needs of students.

HSTA- The Health Sciences and Technology Academy’s vision was founded in 1994 on the faith, resilience, spirit and commitment of individuals, communities, and universities throughout the state. HSTA is a 9th-12th grade STEM enrichment program built in West Virginia, by West Virginians, for West Virginians which encourage aspirations, opens doors, and empowers minority and underrepresented students and communities. You will report to the ER for immediate follow-up. Must address within 2 hrs! When registering, DO NOT GIVE INSURANCE CARD, register as “WVU Student Health Guarantor Account” so it does not get charged to your insurance.
