Elevator construction details for WVU Health Sciences beginning March 2

Starting on Monday, March 2, elevator renovations will begin in both the North and South towers of the Health Sciences Center. Plans have been developed to minimize disruption, but some inconvenience cannot be avoided. Students, faculty and staff are advised to use the stairs as much as possible to minimize impacts on functioning elevators.

Communication will be ongoing and signs will be posted to assist with navigation.

As construction starts during the week of March 2, crews will begin work in the pits below the elevators in both towers. This phase is anticipated to last approximately a week.

During this phase, the contractor is employing procedures to work as quietly as possible, but some additional noise can be anticipated. Arrangements have been made with potentially affected departments to monitor the situation.

HSC North Tower:

• On Monday, March 2, Elevator #1 will be taken off-line. Restoration is anticipated on Friday, May 29.
• Elevator #2 will remain operational for public use during this time.
• Contractors will utilize the freight elevators to move materials.

HSC South Tower:

• On Monday, March 2, Elevators #1 and #2 will be taken off-line. Restoration is anticipated on Friday, June 26.
• Elevator #3 is designated as a contractor elevator with periods of public use. The contractor will use it during the early morning to move materials with the goal of having it back for public use during the day.
• Elevators #4 and #6 will remain operational for public use during this time.
• Elevator #5 is currently off-line, with plans to get it back in service as construction begins. Once it’s repaired, it will also remain operational for public use.
