Lung Cancer Screening Program Expands to Wheeling

The Lung Cancer Screening Program here in Morgantown has now extended its services to the Wheeling area.  Marquis Demniak, APRN will be onsite every 1st and 3rd Friday of every month working alongside Dr. Herron in thoracic surgery to see new patients who are interested in having a low-dose CT scan used for lung cancer screening or for patients who underwent an abnormal lung cancer screening requiring a further nodule work up.

The WVU Cancer Institute Lung Cancer Screening Program provides screenings for current and former smokers.

You are eligible if you:

  •  Are between the ages of 50-80.
  •  Have a > 20 pack year smoking history.
  •  Are a current smoker or have quit smoking in the past 15 years.
  •  Have not received a chest CT scan in the last 12 months.

After registering patients can be scheduled for a video or telephone visit, which will include a comprehensive history and exam by a nurse practitioner as well as smoking cessation counseling. Eligible high-risk patients will be referred for a low-dose CT (LDCT) scan to detect lung cancer at its earliest stages.
