Miles for Migraine set for Oct. 14

Miles for Migraine will host its fourth annual 5K run and two-mile walk to benefit the WVU Headache Center at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14, at Hazel Ruby McQuain Park in Morgantown. There is also a virtual event, in which participants can walk/run at their own pace and on their own schedule. WVU Medicine is a sponsor.

All ages and abilities are welcome to participate, whether by running, walking, listening to speakers, or visiting sponsors in the event area. All walk and run finishers will receive a medal, and the 5K race is professionally timed. Registration is free, but donations are encouraged.

Migraine affects roughly 12 percent of the population and can be debilitating for those who suffer. For those who are among the 50 million Americans who suffer from chronic or severe headaches, the WVU Headache Center provides personalized, empathetic care, and a commitment to improving quality of life.

“Miles for Migraine is committed to improving the lives of individuals with migraine and other headache disorders,” Umer Najib, MD, program director of the WVU Headache Center, said. “These funds help to support local headache disorder clinical trials, fellowship training, and other support programs and services.”

All funds raised will benefit the WVU Headache Center to support local migraine and headache awareness, treatment, and research. Since the first Morgantown event in 2020, Miles for Migraine has raised more than $50,000 for the WVU Headache Center.

“Through the support of Miles for Migraine, and people who support our local event, we are better able to provide educational opportunities in headache and migraine disease at the local level,” David Watson, MD, chair of the WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute Department of Neurology, said.
