New parking garage now open

A new parking garage, named Mountaineer Station II, will open next to the existing Mountaineer Station Garage near the Med Center PRT, on Monday, Nov. 9. The new garage will provide 750 new parking spaces on the campus of J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital. The garage will be dedicated to employee parking, even on WVU football home game days.

Since March, employees have been able to park in any employee lot on a first-come, first-served basis. That will continue until the first quarter of 2021. The off-campus lot at the Research Park will continue to be an option as well.

In the fall of 2019, a Parking Advisory Team (PAT) was formed to obtain employee feedback on parking. The group is composed of representatives from across the hospital. According to WVU Medicine senior leadership, the group did a great job analyzing parking data for the entire campus. The entire leadership team appreciates the time and effort the group put forth.

The team made a number of great recommendations to improve the employee and patient/visitor parking experience, and WVU Medicine plans to implement many of those recommendations early in 2021.  WVU Medicine’s COVID-19 response delayed implementation until then.

Some of the improvements that will occur in early 2021 include a streamlined permitting process, and new signage and technology to make it easier for employees to know where parking is available. Specifics of the new plan will be released early next year.
