Of the Mindful Physician hosts events discussing service animals, healthcare for homeless population

Of the Mindful Physician, an organization for MD students focusing on the impact arts and humanities have on healthcare, is hosting two community events in January.

The first, held Friday, Jan. 12 at 5 p.m. in 1905 HSC North, will discuss how service and therapy animals complement patient care treatments. Jene Meade—a veterinarian and WVU alumna who founded Hearts of Gold, a service dog training organization—will talk benefits with a veteran who received a service dog.

The second, held Monday, Jan. 22 at 5:30 p.m. in 1909 HSC North, will address the intersectionality of homelessness and healthcare. Dr. Karen Fitzpatrick, family medicine; Susan Pinto, School of NursingMichael McCawley, School of Public Health; and Laura Jones, director of Milan Puskar Health Right will participate in a panel discussing the healthcare needs of homeless populations, barriers to access and delivery, and solutions for Morgantown.
