Perle appointed as chair of column in Journal of Technology in Behavioral Science

Jonathan Perle, Ph.D., ABPP, associate professor in the West Virginia University School of Medicine Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry was recently appointed as chair of the “Tele-competency, Evaluation, and Outcomes” column in the Journal of Technology in Behavioral Science. Dr. Perle also serves on the editorial board of the journal.

The journal, published by Springer Nature, takes an interdisciplinary approach to evaluating the interactions of human behavior, telehealth/technology and behaviorally focused health care. The “Tele-competency, Evaluation, and Outcomes” column promotes discussions about telebehavioral health competencies, methods of their acquisition, evaluation of methods and interventions targeting educational attainment.

“I am honored to be appointed as chair of the column to help spread evidence-informed information on the competencies to drive an ethical, legal and safe telehealth practice,” Perle said.

While serving as chair of the column, Perle will be exploring contributions, reviewing submissions and assisting in decision making for acceptance in the journal.

As the use of telehealth has continuously increased since the beginning of the pandemic, Perle adds that providers are seeking an outlet for readily applicable literature to learn more and prepare for the many variables of telehealth practices.

Perle, who also serves as director of telepsychology for the Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry, believes his work in the School of Medicine has prepared him for this role and will aid in his future work.

“Serving as chair of the column will help me continue to consolidate and disseminate useful information that can be applied both within and outside the School of Medicine and WVU,” Perle said.

Perle is a clinical child and adolescent psychologist at WVU Medicine. He earned his Ph.D. and Master of Science degrees in clinical psychology at Nova Southeastern University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Baylor/Texas Children’s Hospital.
