School of Medicine hosts Pre-Health Academy

Offers tips on applying to a health sciences graduate program

The WVU School of Medicine will host a Pre-Health Academy of Advisors Workshop from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22. Pre-health advisors from WVU and undergraduate colleges in West Virginia and around the region are invited to participate in a day of activities innovatively designed to equip them with information and resources to help facilitate their students’ goals of being accepted into a health sciences graduate program, particularly medical school at WVU.

A full day of workshops will be offered that include topics such as discussing all aspects of the 2015 Medical College Admission Test (MCAT), how to write a great letter of recommendation and the prerequisites needed to get into medical school. There will also be a panel discussion made up of current medical students and a tour of the WV STEPS simulation center.

It is never too early to begin planning for undergraduate education and for entrance into a health sciences graduate program, such as medical school. Considering the options and creating a strategy that enhances a student's portfolio and background can be helpful.
