MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - WVU Medicine Berkeley Medical Center and the Martinsburg Berkeley County Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony yesterday (Dec. 21) to celebrate the opening of a new outpatient surgery center on the hospital campus.

Participants in the outpatient surgery center ribbon cutting are pictured left to right: WVU Medicine University Healthcare Board Director Jackee Long; Berkeley Medical Center President/CEO Anthony P. Zelenka; Surgery Center Medical Director David Fishkin, M.D.; Chief of Anesthesiology Jack Shamblin, M.D.; Surgery Center Director Nicole Sinsebox, R.N.; Director of Facilities Scott Mathis; W. Harley Miller Contractors Owner Diane Dailey; University Healthcare Foundation Board Chairman John Beatty; and Martinsburg Berkeley County Chamber of Commerce President/CEO Tina Combs.

The center, which is scheduled to open on Jan. 3, has four operating rooms and 12 pre- and post-procedure rooms.

“We will open two operating rooms initially focusing on gastroenterology and ophthalmology procedures,” Nicole Sinsebox, R.N., center director, said. “Mid-year, the remaining two ORs will open to allow for additional surgical services.”

According to Sinsebox, the surgery center also includes a pre-surgical testing area offering EKG and lab services for patient convenience.

“We designed the center to provide a pleasant atmosphere for our patients. The additional ORs will assist us in accommodating the health needs of our community,” she added.

The outpatient surgery center is located in MOB3, 880 Tennessee Ave., across from Berkeley Medical Center. The contractor for the project was W. Harley Miller Contractors, Inc., in Martinsburg.
