The Wright Stuff: New program will ease the burden of student loans

A message to the WVU Medicine family

We make a continuous effort to examine our benefits, listen to feedback, and adapt accordingly. We not only want to attract the best employees, but we want to keep them here – and keep them happy!

It gives me great pleasure to announce a new program – one that will make a lot of you very happy.

Our new Student Loan Assistance Program will launch system-wide in April. Employees will still need to make their required monthly loan payments; however, WVU Medicine will provide an additional $100 each month that will be sent directly to the loan servicer.

This new benefit can reduce the length of your loan and save you thousands. These are dollars that can be put toward a new home, vehicle, your retirement plan, or your child’s education.

The program is open to certain active, full-time employees (at least .9 FTE) with 90 days of service, who are the primary co-signer or borrower of the loan. More details will be shared with employees on April 1, when the program launches. For more details on the guidelines, click here.

The Student Loan Assistance Program is among several initiatives that WVU Medicine has launched in recent years to reward employees. Others include:

  • Tuition reimbursement programs for employees and dependents
  • Work-Life Balance Program for senior nurses (features reduced work hours and other perks)

We care about you and your families, and want to do everything possible to help you thrive and have a sound financial future. This new program is just one more way for us to do that.

As always, thank you so much for everything you do in support of our patients and their families!
