Thanks to the efforts of the community and WVU Medicine Wheeling Hospital staff, more than $1,300 was donated to the Good Samaritan Fund following the recent Howard Long Wellness Center Triathlon.

Hosted at the hospital’s Howard Long Wellness Center in March, the event was initially drawn up by Stanley Guertal, DO, Wheeling Hospital SMG Emergency Department, and Joe Slavik, director of the Howard Long Wellness Center.

“I’m incredibly thankful for the turnout we had for our inaugural event,” Dr. Guertal said. “It is a tremendous blessing to both participate in and celebrate wellness, while also raising money for those less fortunate who come through our ED. I can’t wait to see how the event grows next year.”

The Good Samaritan Fund is a pool of money made available for patients of Wheeling Hospital to assist with gas cards and prescription medication costs.

Thanks to everyone who participated in the event, and to those who helped organize and host!
