WVU HVI researcher wins annual Scientific Sessions of American Society of Echocardiography Young Investigator award

Nobuyuki Kagiyama, M.D., Ph.D., a postdoctoral research scholar with the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute Center for Innovation, is the 2019 recipient of the Annual Scientific Sessions of American Society of Echocardiography Arthur Weyman Young Investigator Award.

Dr. Kagiyama was one of four finalists selected to present his research to a panel of experts during the opening plenary sessions of the Annual ASE Scientific Sessions in June.

As the winner of that presentation, Kagiyama will go on to present his research at the upcoming European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging’s EuroEcho-Imaging meeting in December, and the Japanese Society of Echocardiography’s Annual Scientific Meeting the following spring.

“Dr. Kagiyama’s research and the work of the HVI continue to position WVU as one of the premiere Echocardiography research centers,” Partho Sengupta, M.D., director of Cardiovascular Imaging and chair of the Center for Innovation as well as chief of the Division of Cardiology in the WVU HVI, said. “Winning a national competition of this caliber is an enormous honor and showcases the powerful connections and advancements we continue to make in echocardiography.”

Kagiyama is supported by a WVU research fellowship grant from Hitachi Healthcare.

The competition is supported by the National Board of Echocardiography (NBE) in honor of their first president, Arthur E. Weyman, MD, FASE.
