WVU Medicine Cheat Lake Physicians family medicine clinic earns national recognition for patient-centered care
The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) has announced that the WVU Medicine Department of Family Medicine Cheat Lake Physicians primary care clinic has received NCQA Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) Recognition for using evidence-based, patient-centered processes that focus on highly coordinated care and long‐term, participative relationships.
The NCQA Patient-Centered Medical Home program reflects the input of the American College of Physicians (ACP), American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), American Osteopathic Association (AOA), and others. It was developed to assess whether clinician practices are functioning as medical homes and recognize them for these efforts. These standards emphasize the use of systematic, patient-centered, coordinated care that supports access, communication, and patient involvement.
“This recognition demonstrates the hard work we have done in our Cheat Lake Physicians clinic to build a medical home for our patients,” Darin Rogers, WVU Medicine vice president of Ambulatory Operations and chief ambulatory operations officer, said. “Our clinic staff has done a tremendous job to meet the requirements of this certification, improving patient care and service.”
To earn recognition, which is valid for one year, the clinic demonstrated the ability to meet the program’s key elements, embodying characteristics of the medical home. NCQA standards aligned with the joint principles of the Patient-Centered Medical Home established with the American College of Physicians, the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the American Osteopathic Association.
WVU Medicine Family Medicine earned similar recognitions in 2014 and 2017.
