WVU Medicine to reinstate employer contributions to retirement plans

Earlier this year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on operations, WVU Medicine suspended the employer match on the 403(b) Retirement Savings Plan for WVU Health System employees and the employer retirement contribution on its 401(a) Retirement Plan for University Health Associates (UHA) employees.

While these changes were to be effective through the 2020 calendar year, WVU Medicine is bringing these programs back sooner than anticipated.

"Thanks to our employees, our hospitals and clinics are busier now than they were before the pandemic," said Albert L. Wright, Jr., president and CEO. "Our patients know that we are here for them, and have confidence in our team of providers and staff, who are dedicated to providing high quality care."

Beginning with the Oct. 23 pay, the 4.5 percent match for the 403(b) Retirement Savings Plan will begin again for our participating employees. Employee contribution changes should be made by Oct. 14 to be included in the Oct. 23 pay.

UHA employees will also see a reinstatement of their 401(a) employer contribution beginning with the Oct. 23 pay. Additional details on the reinstatement of the 401(a) Retirement Plan will be sent to UHA employees by Judie Charlton, MD, chief medical officer.
