An article on the front page of Sunday’s (Jan. 6) The Dominion Post detailed West Virginia’s low health rankings and featured remarks from Albert L. Wright, Jr., president and CEO of the West Virginia Universitiy Health System.
Wright talked about WVU Medicine’s role in improving the health of the entire state using a “hub-and-spoke” model. That model, Wright said, includes J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital at its hub with tertiary and quaternary (highly specialized) capabilities at the hospital, and clinics and care points positioned in key areas around the state.
The article is titled, “W.Va. continues to hover near bottom” with “WVU Medicine working on a fix” as a sub-headline. It reveals that West Virginia ranked 44th in United Health Foundation’s 2018 “America’s Health Rankings” report, up from 46th in 2017.
