WVU School of Medicine launches new Pediatric Cardiology fellowship program

Applications are being accepted for a new three-year pediatric cardiology fellowship at the West Virginia University Department of Pediatrics.

The fellowship, which works closely with providers from Pediatrics and Cardiology, is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. Fellows will also collaborate with providers and clinicians within WVU Medicine Children’s.

“This fellowship marks a significant milestone in advancing pediatric heart care in West Virginia and beyond,” Alex Verhoeven, M.D., program director, said. “It will create a pipeline for internal recruiting for residents to become part of our world-class team.”

Fellows will experience the spectrum of pediatric cardiology, including fetal cardiology, general pediatric cardiology, advanced imaging, interventional catheterization, electrophysiology, adult congenital heart disease, pediatric cardiac anesthesia and preventative cardiology.

Interested applicants can find more information on the fellowship’s website.

WVU has the largest number of specialty residency programs in the state, offering 85 specialty programs to its more than 640 residents and fellow trainees within the WVU Medicine health system.

Fellowship candidates will practice in the new WVU Children’s Hospital, a fully-integrated facility that provides specialized, high-level care in areas such as comprehensive heart, pulmonary, neuro, cancer, orthopaedic, dental, craniomaxillofacial, ENT, ophthalmology, gastrointestinal, urology, surgical and trauma.
