WVU Women's Soccer Holds Kick Cancer 4 by 4 Event on March 8

The annual Kick Cancer four by four event is made up of teams of 3 where the fourth player is a mountaineer player.  To date, this project has raised over $160,000 for the Betty Puskar Breast Care Center and breast cancer research at the WVU Cancer Institute. This year's event raised its goal of $10,000. This event held on Sunday, March 8th had over 84 teams registered and over 300 students participating.

The annual event was made even bigger this year by the friendly challenge between the two Coach Browns on campus.  WVU Women's Soccer head coach Nikki Izzo-Brown challenged other campus coaches to help her make the event bigger and better this year.  Some of the responses included a signed basketball from Coach Huggins and a bowtie from President Gee for the raffles.  The most unique item came from WVU Football coach Neal Brown who offered up a "Bid to Beat Cancer Challenge" where people could outbid each other to have him coach their team. In a video talking about the challenge he quips that Coach Nikki Izzo-Brown -"isn't the only Brown that can coach soccer on this campus." One thing is for certain having other coaches from other teams help with the event made the day more special.

"Several of our staff and some of our alumni are in this battle right now.  We chose breast cancer for this event but when these athletes step on the field they are there battling for people in their lives and it’s great to see the kids interact and get competitive for a good cause," noted Marisa Kanela, event organizer and Associate Head Coach of West Virginia University Women’s Soccer, "and it is competitive, but at the end of the day they all come together for a common cause."
