About Us

Our ACGME accredited EMS Fellowship is based in Morgantown, WV, and is sponsored by the WVU School of Medicine in collaboration with WVU Medicine hospitals.  The fellowship is housed within the core emergency medicine residency program and directed by the WVU Department of Emergency Medicine’s Division of Prehospital Medicine.

The Division of Prehospital Medicine is well established as a major resource providing evidenced-based support to the West Virginia Office of EMS; helping support policy, protocol, procedure, and legislative development, thus providing fellows a unique opportunity to collaborate in the direction of EMS on a statewide level.  Fellows will complete their clinical rotations and experiences at the urban/academic training site, as well as having an opportunity to focus on rural experiences that are unique to our state and the patients to whom we provide care.  Our EMS physician response program will provide fellows access to state-of-the art response vehicles and equipment secured through donations and a generous founding grant by the DT Midstream corporation (formerly DTE).  This program will aid them in responding to care for patients and support EMS agencies in truly austere environments that have limited resources; providing care where and when it is needed most.  Our physician response program is unique in EMS fellowships given its focus on rural environments—it has expanded from a single county (Marion) in 2020 to serving all 55 counties in West Virginia in 2025.
