Welcome from the Program Director
I am so glad that you are visiting our website and are interested in learning more about our EM residency program here at WVU. It is the honor of my professional life to be entrusted with this program and will continue to build upon the strong foundation that has provided residents with incredible training over the last 30+ years.
When people ask our program leadership “What is your favorite part of this program?” during interview season, the answer is invariably the people. Our program is made up of incredible residents and faculty—representing a vast array of hometowns and prior backgrounds—all of whom are committed to providing great care for the acutely ill and injured patients from throughout West Virginia who present to our emergency department and becoming the best emergency physicians they can possibly be.
Our commitment to our residents is unwavering—we will support you through good times and bad, get to know you incredibly well, celebrating your strengths while helping you with any opportunities to improve along your educational journey through residency. Our leadership team, faculty, and your co-residents will help you get to exactly where it is in EM that you want to get to—whether you know exactly what that is today or you have an “aha” moment during training where you realize what your career nirvana looks like. Our program provides a wide variety of training opportunities—from a Level 1 trauma center to small, rural shops during our rural EM electives that position you to do be ready to take care of any patient, any time, anywhere—as well as preparing you to be ready for any type of job or fellowship opportunity at the end of your training.
