WVU University Relations—Health Sciences
University Relations—Health Sciences is seeking a public relations/communications graduate assistant for the fall and spring semesters (20 hours per week). The opportunity to work during the summer is negotiable.
This position helps support a team with a range of responsibilities primarily focused on writing across platforms, including but not limited to:
- Identify and write student, faculty and alumni feature stories for web and print publications;
- Update and maintain website content;
- Provide content for social media and other communications platforms;
- Develop content for multimedia platforms, including video and photography;
- Support and staff special events.
The successful candidate must have strong written and interpersonal skills, ability to work professionally with a variety of personalities while meeting deadlines and be a motivated self-starter. The ideal candidate will have at least two years of coursework in Journalism/Strategic Communications/Graphic Design/Communications. Knowledge of new media and basic graphic design is preferred.
Qualifications:
- Strong writing and communication skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to juggle multiple projects at once.
- Ability to translate detailed scientific concepts to lay audience.
- Knowledge of and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of and proficiency in AP writing style.
Requirements:
- Establish a standard work schedule with the understanding that some evening and weekend work may be necessary.
- Candidate will need to have a reliable form of transportation to attend off-site events when needed.
- Submit a weekly time sheet to supervisor.
Expectations:
- Create a minimum of two profiles per week
- Create a minimum of two news or feature stories per week
- Provide daily editing assistance and publication of news and announcements to the News System.
- Provide support in creation and generation of social media content, website edits, and Infostations.
Through this position, you will enhance your public relations/communications skills while building a strong portfolio of work. Additionally, this position provides great opportunities to enhance skills in storytelling, strategic communication, social media, collaboration and problem solving.
