Radiation Oncology Interest Group
Mission
The Radiation Oncology Interest Group is dedicated to fostering student interest in radiation oncology through early exposure to the field. We aim to provide meaningful opportunities for education, clinical experience, research involvement, and mentorship by connecting students with residents, faculty, and program directors. Through community outreach and patient-centered initiatives, we also strive to highlight the vital role of radiation oncology in compassionate cancer care.
Bylaws
Section I – Name
The name of this organization shall be the Radiation Oncology Interest Group.
Section II – Purpose
The purpose of this organization is to:
- Provide educational opportunities for pre-clinical medical students interested in radiation oncology.
- Facilitate connections between students and professionals within the field, including residents, faculty, and program directors.
- Promote exposure to clinical, academic, and research aspects of radiation oncology.
- Encourage community engagement and patient-centered volunteer activities related to cancer care.
Section III – Compliance Clause
This organization agrees to abide by all university policies, in addition to all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
Section IV – Non-Discrimination
This organization shall not discriminate based on race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, disability, or any other protected status.
Section V – Membership
Membership is open to any student currently enrolled at the West Virginia University School of Medicine.
Section VI – Election of Officers
- Officers shall be elected annually and include: President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.
- Elections shall be held at the final meeting of the academic year and decided by a simple majority.
- Two-thirds of active members must be present to conduct an election.
- Newly elected officers shall assume their roles at the start of the following academic year.
Section VII – Leadership Team
All elected officers shall comprise the Leadership Team, responsible for the administration and coordination of group activities.
Duties include:
- President – Oversees the group’s mission, coordinates with the Department of Radiation Oncology, and organizes events with residents, faculty, and guest speakers.
- Vice President – Assists the president and assumes leadership in their absence; contributes to event planning and group coordination.
- Secretary – Handles communication, publicizes events, and reserves meeting spaces.
- Treasurer – Manages the group’s finances, attends required financial training, and coordinates funding and supplies for events.
Section VIII – Removal of Officers
- Any member may initiate a motion for removal of an officer by presenting evidence of failure to fulfill duties or violations of University policy or law.
- A two-thirds vote of present active members is required for removal.
- A replacement election shall take place at the next meeting if removal is approved.
