West Virginia Healthy Start/HAPI Project
Helping Appalachian Parents and Infants
At the WV Healthy Start/HAPI Project, we’re on a mission: to ensure that babies in West Virginia have the strongest start, and parents feels supported, empowered, and prepared. Backed by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and housed within the West Virginia University School of Medicine, OB/GYN Department, our team brings professional expertise and community heart to pregnant women, new parents, and growing families across our Appalachian communities.
What We Do
- Personalized Support: From the prenatal period through postpartum and beyond, we offer home/virtual visits, check-ins, and phone support delivered by caring licensed social workers and registered nurses.
- Whole Family-Wellness: We educate and guide families on healthy pregnancy habits, postpartum wellness, infant/child development, healthy relationships and more.
- Father/Partner Support: Our Fatherhood Initiative offers the 24/7 Dad Curriculum - supporting engaged, informed fatherhood and strong parenting partnerships.
- Removing Barriers: Screenings and services to help address postpartum depression, substance use disorder, smoking cessation, oral health, domestic violence, and more.
- Group-Based Education Classes: We host fun, interactive classes for moms, dads, and families - covering topics like prenatal care, breastfeeding, parenting skills, dad workshops, maternal wellness, and so much more. These group sessions build knowledge and community, connecting families who are on the same journey.
Why It Matters
