There is no doubt that COVID-19 has impacted day-to-day life, even in the smallest ways, for every individual. Serious impacts include overflowing hospitals, increasing unemployment rate, and a suffering economy. Families with children are scrambling to find sufficient technology and supplies for the young students to learn from home. Grocery stores are being rummaged through by hands donned with latex gloves, restaurants and movie theaters have become ghost towns, and traffic is essentially non-existent. Recent government mandated quarantines and imposed self-isolation measures have left citizens confined to their houses for the foreseeable future.

With so much time being spent at home now, many people are turning towards television and streaming services to preoccupy their newly found free time. Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and other services are offering a seemingly endless supply of movies and TV shows to binge watch. However, there is one thing that these streaming providers cannot supply - live sports. With MLB, NHL, NBA, and many other leagues having their seasons cancelled, fanbases are turning to Twitter to fill their void of a lack of competition and betting.

Scrolling through your Twitter timeline, you can often come across viral “brackets”. These so-called brackets have Twitter users from all across the nation pick and choose which competitor is the ultimate supreme. Many common brackets seen across the internet are “best choice snack”, “best local bar”, “best horror movie”, or even “best breed of dog”. With the option to choose and vote on any topic under the sun, these Twitter brackets have taken the timeline by storm and are an amusing break from daily realities.

Following in user’s footsteps, I have created an ultimate WVU bracket for you to fill out with family, friends, roommates, and fellow mountaineers alike (as long as you aren’t in a group of 10 or more! Oh, and six feet apart please!) Filled with hometown favorites, you can complete this bracket and see which part of WVU holds the most special spot in your heart. Feel free to debate, declare, and ultimately decide your favorite aspect of our school!

While it can seem almost impossible to choose just one part of our university to hold the number one title of being the best (even though mine was pretty obvious – Flying WV cookies will always be #1 in my heart), have some fun and reflect on why you love our home among the mountains so much. While we are miles apart, our country roads will always bring us home. Stay safe, stay healthy, and Let’s Go Mountaineers!
