What’s Happening – Morgantown

OSHA and HIPAA must be renewed yearly per hospital requirements. You must renew via SOLE by August 31, 2019.  Upload your completion certificate to your e-value portfolio – Under Competencies – Systems-based Practice – OSHA & HIPPA.

FARMER’S MARKET will be held every Wednesday. This year the market will be moved closer to the HSC North Pylons entrance.

APPOINTMENTS OFFERED for Medical students. Confidential, private appointments for initial assessments, triage and brief interventions for students experiencing life stress, mental illness or problems with alcohol or substance use. GTR 2.0 – One on One Meetings with the Dean will begin scheduling soon. Watch your email for your Dean assignment and how to schedule your appointment.

CPX SCHEDULING will take place through SOLE on July 1. You’ll receive instructions through email prior to this date.

RESIDENCY APPLICATION DATES to remember. September 5 – Applications open; September 15 NRMP opens; October 1 - MSPEs are released to residency programs.

MS4 Class of 2020

Manna Meal is taking place Saturday, July 13th from 11:30 until 1:00 PM. Manna Meal is located at St. John's Episcopal Church 1105 Quarrier Street. Bring stethoscopes, blood pressure cuffs, and any other diagnostic tools that you'd like; and a box of cereal, a jar of peanut butter, crackers, or any fresh or packaged food items you may have. Review the confidentiality, liability, and safety training PowerPoints on the CHASM website by following the link  https://medicine.hsc.wvu.edu/charleston/students/project-chasm/street-rounds/.  Please indicate under the street rounds tab that you have completed the training PowerPoints by signing the Confidentiality and Liability forms. PEDS Grand Rounds is broadcast from Morgantown every Wednesday 8-9 am. The first Wednesday is at the board room on the 8th floor of BMC.  Remaining sessions held at the ED conference room in ED of BMC.  If you are on a Pediatrics Week, please plan to attend.

Tumor Board – TBA

Health & Resiliency Program Yoga (formerly Karma Yoga) – Wednesdays, May 8th-Dec. 18th, 5:00-7:00pm, in Eastern HSC Mountaineer Room.  Free sessions for employees and medical students to promote wellness.  Supplies are limited; if you have yoga equipment, you are encouraged to bring it to the classes.

Volunteer/Community Service Opportunities

Stepping Stones/Good Samaritan Free Clinic – Volunteers needed every Wednesday at 5pm and first Tuesday of each month at 5pm.  New location: 601 S. Raleigh Street, Martinsburg.  To volunteer or for additional information: Ayita Verna (agverna@mix.wvu.edu).

Fun Volunteer Opportunity – Jefferson County Community Ministries Food Pantry, 238 W. Washington Street, Charles Town.  3rd Saturday of each month, beginning at 10am.  Volunteers will work with Dr. Maddie Humerick, Chef Scott, and others to assist the food pantry patrons to improve their nutrition status with monthly cooking demonstrations. Volunteers Needed – Chronic illness group and their support system is looking for speakers to give 45-minute presentations on the first and third Tuesday of each month.  Meetings held 9-10:30am in the Dorothy McCormack Center, 2nd floor conference room.  Topics can be health-related, inspirational, supportive, educational about coping mechanisms, sharing a story/experience, or a fun activity.  Contact Debbie Maiorano at 540-535-5145 or deborahmm@aol.com if interested in volunteering.
