Advanced Practice Professional Fellowship Program

A first-of-its-kind program in West Virginia, advanced practice professionals have a unique opportunity to train within the Department of Urology and WVU Medicine with the ultimate goal of increasing access to urologic care for West Virginia's patients in a community-based setting. This 12-month program is open to both APRNs and PAs and will highlight outpatient clinical practice as well as inpatient, hospital-based urologic care at WVU Medicine. Fellows will get hands on procedural training and weekly didactical learning opportunities as they rotate through adult and pediatric subspecialties mentored by our advanced practice staff in collaboration with our faculty urologists.

Purpose

To provide a formalized didactic and clinical urologic education for those entry-level and experienced advanced practice providers who desire to expand their abilities working in a urology setting. The intent of the APP post-graduate fellowship would be to address the short-term and long-term need for trained urologic providers. Goals of the fellowship are to provide a pool of trained post fellows to fill community-based urologic practice needs.

Mission

  • To enhance the urologic care and access for patients living in rural West Virginia and nationally
  • To recruit the brightest and most talented advanced practice providers to strongly consider establishing themselves as a trusted community-based provider for rural populations
  • To train and educate advanced practice providers in urologic care

Scope

Fellows will rotate through general adult urologic care, pediatric urologic care and urologic oncology at WVU Medicine. A full breakdown of those specific rotations can be found linked below.

“I love to teach - it's been the greatest joy in my career, from lectures at our schools to one-on-one clinical experience. Translating my own experiences, what I've learned over the years and sharing that knowledge with others, that's the best part of my job.”
