Info for Applicants

The Department of Urology strives to ensure a fair and non-discriminatory process for the selection of residents into the Urology training program. All applications are accepted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).

Applicants also must register with the American Urological Association Matching Program. Information regarding participating in this program may be obtained by contacting the AUA Office of Education at (800) 282-7077, or by contacting their website at www.auanet.org.

The completed application will be reviewed by the Urology Residency Program Director. Faculty members are encouraged to participate in the review of applications.  We typically receive approximately 200 applications for our two available positions. Approximately 40 candidates are invited to participate in the interview process. The candidates are informed by letter or e-mail that they have been selected for an interview (on selected dates in November and December). Each candidate is given information regarding salary, benefits, local information, and lodging information at the time of interview.  The entire process follows the guidelines set forth by the American Urological Association (AUA) and the Society of Academic Urologists (SAU).  Interested applicants are encouraged to check the AUA website, listed above, for the most up to date information about the application process and important dates regarding application submission, uniform date of notification of interview selection, the interview process, and submission of final rank list.

All candidates meet with the Urology Residency Program Director, Department Chair, Urology faculty, and residents. Interviews in recent years have been through an on-line portal (Thalamus or Zoom) and are follow the guidelines set forth by the AUA and SAU.  Applicants will interview with 1 or 2 urology faculty and 1 or 2 residents for approximately 10 minutes.  Applicants are evaluated on the application materials provided as well as their interviews. The program will submit its final ranking of candidates after discussion and input from all faculty members and residents who participated in the interview process.  The department encourages applications from all interested candidates.

  2. Graduation from an accredited American Medical School; or, for international medical school graduates, a current ECFMG certificate and appropriate J-1 visa status
  3. Certified medical school transcript
  4. Personal statement
  5. Three letters of recommendation
  6. Dean's letter
  7. United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Scores
  8. Completion of USMLE Step 3 by the end of PGY 2
