Immunology and Medical Microbiology students awarded at Autumn Immunology Conference
Students in the WVU Immunology and Medical Microbiology program attended the 52nd Autumn Immunology Conference (AIC) held November 22-25, in Chicago, to present their research projects.
During the conference, Kody Moore was awarded a Young Investigator Award from the American Association of Immunologists for having the top abstract in his workshop category. His project was titled, “Metabolic and Skeletal Dysfunctions Correlate with Fatigue-Like Behavior in an Animal Model of Multiple Sclerosis.”
Rachael Bare and Lainey Shouldis both won an American Association of Immunologists Undergraduate Award. Bare’s project was titled, "Development of a Novel Group B Streptococcus Model of Neonatal Sepsis, and Shouldis’ project was titled, "snRNA-seq suggests in utero Ecig exposure may influence microglia role in development of neurodegenerative diseases."
Samantha Antol won a Trends in Immunology Poster Presentation Award for her project, “The influence of androgen receptor signaling on MOC1 immunogenicity.”
The students were accompanied by Professor Jon Busada, Ph.D., an assistant professor in the Microbiology, Immunology, and Cell Biology Department.
Founded in 1971, the AIC annual meeting features plenary sessions presented by immunologists as well as offering a forum for students and trainees to present their latest findings in both poster and workshop formats. Attendees have the opportunity to attend keynote presentations, workshops, and panel discussions on a variety of topics related to immunology.
