WVU Eye Institute announces administrative changes
As the WVU Eye Institute continues to focus on serving the growing number of patients across the region and expanding with a focus towards the future, Thomas Mauger, M.D., chair of the department, recently announced several administrative changes.
Zac Sargent has been named executive administrator for the WVU Eye Institute, effective August 31.
Sargent currently serves as the assistant vice president of operations for the WVU Health System Medical Group, but began his career with WVU Medicine in 2012 as a charge nurse. During his time with WVU Medicine, he’s held a variety of roles with increasing responsibility, including coordinator for the Department of Otolaryngology, clinic manager for the Department of Community Practice and regional administrator for the WVU Health System Medical Group.
Craig Campbell, department administrator for the WVU Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences and the WVU Eye Institute, will transition to a new role as the department administrator for the WVU Department of Family Medicine. Since joining the staff as administrator in 2014, Campbell has provided crucial leadership and key support to the expansion of critical eyecare services across the region. Campbell also served as the administrator of the Cheat Lake Clinic from 2005 -2017.
Rob Smith, who has served as associate administrator since 2014, has been named the incoming department administrator. For more than a decade, Smith has played a pivotal role in advancing the Eye Institute, including leading the planning and design of the new facility, expanding clinical research trials and enhancing outreach services.
Both of these administrative changes took effect on July 6.
Kerry Fluharty, who previously served as the Department of Orthopaedics executive assistant, is the new department manager. In this role, she will provide key leadership and support to faculty, staff, residents and fellows.
“I would like to take this opportunity to formally welcome Zac and Kerry to the Eye Institute family and to congratulate Rob on his new role within our leadership team. I also want to thank Craig for his hard work and dedication and for playing a key role in our successes over the past decade,” said Dr. Mauger.
