Meet the grads: Sydney Zimmerman
What initially sparked your interest in athletic training?
My interest in athletic training stemmed from knowing I wanted to work in health care and be involved with sports in some capacity. Athletic training allows me to do both.
Why did you choose to attend WVU and pursue your degree here?
I got my undergrad degree here in Health and Well-Being and knew that it was the right fit to stay. The connections at WVU are extensive, and with the right relationships, I knew it would help me in the future.
Looking back, how did your time at WVU prepare you for the next step in your career?
The classes I took prepared me to take the Athletic Training Board of Certification exam and succeed outside the classroom.
What is one skill or lesson you gained during your time at WVU that you will carry with you?
The skills that will always follow me are time management and confidence in myself and my skill set.
What experience (internship, clinical, project, organization, etc.) had the biggest impact on you and why?
I was able to get a summer internship with the LA Rams, which provided me with another look at athletic training at the professional level. It showed me that there were a lot of similarities to my previous clinical sites, and also highlighted the differences in the work needed to put into running a successful program.
How do you hope to make an impact in your career or community moving forward?
I hope to make an impact on students who are interested or on the athletic training path by showing them why this job is amazing and very rewarding.
What is your favorite memory from your time at WVU?
My favorite memories are being a sports med intern and getting to work with the WVU football team.
