Several School of Medicine faculty recognized with awards for mentorship and teaching
The West Virginia University School of Medicine M.D. program awarded several faculty members for their efforts in mentorship and teaching throughout the academic year at the year-end Awards Convocation that took place on Thursday, May 11.
This year’s award recipients were:
- Distinguished Teacher Award, Senior Level: Alan Thomay, M.D., Department of Surgery
- Distinguished Teacher Award, Junior Level: Madison Humerick, M.D., Department of Family Medicine – Eastern Division
- Academy of Advisors Mentor of the Year Award: Joel Yednock, M.D., Department of Medicine
Established in 1986, the Distinguished Teaching Award is given annually to recognize and reward exceptional teaching and/or innovation in teaching methods, course and curriculum design and instructional tools. Those nominated are to be among the very best teachers, at any rank, in the School of Medicine. The selection is made by a committee of faculty and students.
Sponsored by the Academy of Advisors, which connects medical students with distinguished faculty who can offer advising, mentorship and career development guidance, the Mentor of the Year award recognizes distinguished faculty who are exemplary in those efforts.
