West Virginia University gastroenterology researchers present at Digestive Disease Week® (DDW) 2021

West Virginia University Gastroenterology division presented more than a dozen key studies at Digestive Disease Week (DDW) 2021 Virtual May 21-May 23. Digestive Disease Week is the world’s largest research meeting and educational forum for gastroenterology, hepatology, GI endoscopy, gastrointestinal surgery and related fields. Dr William Hutson, Gastroenterology Section Chief and Professor of Medicine, said,” We are proud of our strong research and expertise, and we are glad to stay at the forefront in the field by presenting our research at DDW this year”.

Shyam Thakkar's, M.D presentation on an innovative technique combining ERCP and percutaneous transhepatic approach for the treatment of bile duct injury was highlighted at the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) video plenary session.

Shailendra Singh's, M.D studies on gastrointestinal cancer and hepatorenal syndrome were presented in oral sessions of the American Gastroenterology Association (AGA) and American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) oral sessions respectively. Dr Singh’s video presentation on the Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty technique for the treatment of obesity was selected by the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) as an honorable mention. Among the poster presentations, Posters of distinction awards were also granted to 4 studies.
