WVU featured in Archives of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Journal

The June 2018 issue of the Archives of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine scientific journal included a special section of papers authored exclusively by members of the School of Medicine’s Department of Pathology, Anatomy & Laboratory Medicine.

The edition contained nine original articles related to Human Papillomavirus (HPV) associated diseases.

Contributors include the former chair Dr. Barbara Ducatman. Current contributing faculty include Drs. Melina Flanagan, Jeffrey Vos, Olukemi Esan, Patrick Bacaj and David Burch. Former faculty members Kymberly Gyure and Flavia Rosado, as well as current and former residents Drs. Ibrahim Robadi, Majed Pharaon, Yara Daous and Mehenaz Hanbazazh, also contributed.

HPV-related topics included:

  • The impact of HPV infection in developing countries where cervical cancer is still the most important cause of years of life lost due to cancer in women
  • The clinical and morphologic manifestations of HPV infection in the skin and eye
  • The role of different HPV strains in cervical neoplasia and oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinomas
  • The pathogenesis of HPV-related neoplasms in solid organ transplantation
  • Promising advances in managing and treating HPV disease
