WVU OT Alumnus Appointed to American Parkinson Disease Association Rhode Island Chapter
WVU OT alumnus Luke Davis, MBA, OTR/L, joins the Board of Directors for the American Parkinson Disease Association Rhode Island Chapter. Davis is the Regional Director of Rehabilitation at Spaulding Rehab Network and brings a wealth of experience in OT, healthcare administration, business, disability services, and community engagement.
Building upon his clinical background in occupational therapy, Davis brings a solid understanding of the clinical implications of Parkinsons Disease. According to the Parkinson's Disease Association, the disease is a "chronic and progressive condition, meaning that the symptoms become worse over time and can affect the ability to perform common, daily activities." Occupational therapy interventions for individuals with Parkinson's Disease can incorporate self-management, coaching, compensatory, cognitive–behavioral, and other approaches into multicomponent treatment plans depending on the client’s needs and goals (Wood et al, 2022).
Additionally, in 2023, Davis was appointed by Rhode Island Governor Daniel J. McKee to the Permanent Advisory Commission on Traumatic Brain Injuries to represent Community-Based Services in Rhode Island.
Davis continues to exemplify the Mountaineers Go First motto and elevates the visibility of occupational therapy practitioners at the state level. Great work, Luke!
