Loyal West Virginia Physician Award
The Loyal West Virginia Physician Award is given to recognize a School of Medicine graduate for his/her compassionate care of West Virginia citizens, outstanding community service and dedication to the WVU School of Medicine. It was established in 2010 by the West Virginia University School of Medicine Alumni Association and revised in 2021. The selection is made by the WVU School of Medicine Alumni Association Awards Committee.
Award criteria:
A candidate must be a living graduate (MD or PhD) of the West Virginia University School of Medicine whose career has been distinguished by humanistic contributions, and/or outstanding service to West Virginia University and/or their local community. This award honors a single outstanding accomplishment, or a lifetime of merit.
Nomination process and deadline:
The required nomination form is posted online at medicine.hsc.wvu.edu/alumni. Nominations are accepted from the School of Medicine alumni or faculty until January 31 each year.
- Complete the following:
- Required nomination form
- One nomination letter focusing on the nominee’s record
- Nominee’s abbreviated curriculum vitae (limit 20 pages)
- Additional letters of recommendation are welcomed (maximum of 3), but not required.
- Submit information - online submission is preferred. Option: You may submit information as a Word document or PDF via email to the Alumni Office at alumni@hsc.wvu.edu
- Incomplete or late nominations received after the deadline will not be considered for this year and will be automatically saved for review next year.
- Nominations will be kept and reviewed for a period of 3 years for consideration. Updated material may be requested by the Awards Committee.
- Self-nominations will not be accepted.
- All decisions by the Awards Committee are final.
Award:
Recipient will receive an engraved plaque in the shape of the State of West Virginia.
Notification:
Recipient will be notified by the chair of the Awards Committee and honored in his/her hometown during the West Virginia State birthday celebration on June 20.
