Proudly hosted by the WVU Department of Medicine, the Annual Anthony G. DiBartolomeo Internal Medicine Conference was established as part of The Anthony G. DiBartolomeo Professorship honoring Dr. DiBartolomeo and his legacy of dedication to the WVU School of Medicine, the Department and the education of students in West Virginia.

The conference provides an opportunity for internists to hear from top physicians on today’s most influential medicine topics and grow their professional network across the health system, state, and region.

Target Audience

This conference is designed for physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and members in the healthcare field interested in up-to-date information on inpatient and outpatient adult medicine.

Learning Objectives

Following this conference, participants should be able to:

  • Apply evidence-based strategies to improve diagnosis, treatment, and care coordination for their patients
  • Implement evidence-based clinical strategies to optimize patient care and outcomes in Internal Medicine
  • Coordinate care and integrate best practices across interdisciplinary teams to improve patient management and outcomes
  • Apply guideline-directed screening, diagnostic, and treatment strategies for common and complex internal medicine conditions.
  • Differentiate between disease-directed treatment options and palliative-focused care strategies in advanced cancer.
  • Identify appropriate candidates for bariatric endoscopic therapies and compare available procedural options with surgical and medical alternatives.
  • Recognize and differentiate allergic dermatologic conditions and develop initial management and referral plans.

  • Recognize clinical presentations of tick-borne illnesses and initiate appropriate diagnostics and empiric treatment.
  • Identify barriers to safe care transitions in rural populations and apply strategies to reduce readmissions and medication discrepancies.
  • Describe indications and referral timing for solid organ transplantation and collaborate effectively with transplant centers.
