ALL STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS! Student Organization Meeting Wednesday, August 22 at 12:00 noon in room 1905. All Presidents and Treasurers are asked to be present. If you have any questions please contact Cheryl at 293-4300 or by e-mail.

FOLEY APPOINTMENTS Dr. Kim Foley, licensed psychologist, will be providing services again this year. You can sign up anonymously for an appointment via the SOLE Site, ‘Dr. Foley Appointments’. Reference the site for the dates/times of her schedule.

MS4 Class of 2019

GTR 2.0 is in full swing! Remember that you will need to send a copy of your updated CV and personal statement to your assigned Dean at least 7 days prior to your selected appointment. You will bring your GTR 1-on-1 Form (Found on the MS4 Information Page) to your appointment. 

SAVE THE DATE! GTR 3, Interviewing Skills, will be offered in 2 sessions. You may choose to attend either October 10th or October 22nd. Watch for an email in the coming weeks for more information and to RSVP. 

DECEMBER GRADUATES MD Ceremony will be held Saturday, December 15 @ 10:00am at the Coliseum. The graduation application portal is now open! You MUST apply for graduation via STAR or Degree Works. Contact Amy to let Student Services know about your plans for participation in the ceremony and if you have any questions. 

MAY COMMENCEMENT DATE has been released! MD Ceremony will be held Friday, May 10 @ 7:00pm at the Creative Arts Center. Contact Amy if you have any questions.

MS3 Class of 2020

SAVE THE DATE. Getting to Residency 0.5 will be held on Wednesday, November 14 at 4:00pm in 1901. This is your first GTR with an introduction to the match process and course scheduling for spring. 

EMERGENCY MEDICINE Interested in Emergency Medicine and/or medical education?  If so, please consider participating in an EM educational research project, which can also be counted for community service experience.  Contact Amy summers at if interested.

What’s Happening – Eastern        

Congratulations to MS3 Daniel Franey, who recently co-authored a research case report with Dr. Eduardo Espiridion (Psychiatry, Eastern Campus) that has been accepted for publication in the Cureus Journal of Medicine and will also be indexed in Pub Med Central.  Title of the paper is “Anabolic Steroid Induced Mania”.

Tumor Board - Every Thursday, 8th Floor Classroom, 12:00-1:00pm. Aug. 26th: “Lung Cancer” presented by Dr. Rohit Gulati (VP &CMO, BMC) and Dr. Ryan Livengood (Pathology).

PEDS Grand Rounds is broadcast from Morgantown every Wednesday 8-9 am. The first Wednesday is at the board room on the 8th floor of BMC.  Remaining sessions held at the ED conference room in ED of BMC.  If you are on a Pediatrics Week, please plan to attend.

Volunteer/Community Service Opportunities

Volunteer Speaking Opportunity – Prostate Cancer Support Group is looking for students to speak on various prostate cancer topics for 15-20 minutes, with a potential Q&A session.  Meetings held 6:30-8:30pm on second Thursday of each month, 2nd floor of Dorothy McCormack Building.  Contact Dr. Paul Kradel, 304-267-2520, if interested. 

Stepping Stones/Good Samaritan Free Clinic – Volunteers needed every Wednesday at 5pm and first Tuesday of each month at 5pm.  New location: 601 S. Raleigh Street, Martinsburg.  To volunteer or for additional information: Ayita Verna (agverna@mix.wvu.edu). 

Fun Volunteer Opportunity – Jefferson County Community Ministries Food Pantry, 238 W. Washington Street, Charles Town.  3rd Saturday of each month, beginning at 10am.  Volunteers will work with Dr. Maddie Humerick, Chef Scott, and others to assist the food pantry patrons to improve their nutrition status with monthly cooking demonstrations. BLS/ACLS Cards – Be sure to access the link sent to you from American Heart Association to claim your BLS/ACLS cards from the recent training class provided by BMC.  The links do expire, so you MUST claim the cards and save them as soon as possible, as you will need them for the ERAS program next year.  If you have issues, please contact Eastern Campus Student Services: 304-596-6312.
