Objectives

To gain experience in both anatomic and clinical pathology with an emphasis on clinical disease correlation. Students will be introduced to the primary areas of pathology during the month long rotation. Upon approval from the course director, the student may elect to concentrate efforts within a specific section of pathology during the rotation experience.

Methods to Achieve Objectives

Students are assigned to various sections within pathology and function as externs during the rotation, working with both pathology faculty and residents. Students will receive formal instruction during existing pathology conferences and patient care rounds. Faculty mentors will be assigned for each student to supervise their rotation.

Examination Procedures and Evaluation Criteria

Students will be evaluated on the basis of attendance, performance and interest as evaluated by the faculty member working with the student. Students will present a 20 minute conference to the faculty and pathology residents critically evaluating a clinical case or problem evaluation that they were involved with during the rotation.
