Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences welcomes newly-matched residents for 2025
Residency program expands to five residents per year
The West Virginia University Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences will welcome five newly-matched residents to the residency program in July.
This will mark the first time the program has increased the residency class size since expanding to four residents per year in 2018.
The Ophthalmology Residency Program welcomes incoming residents Sami Abdulnabi from the University of Missouri; Kun Chu from Mercer University; Eric Moran from the University of Illinois; Molly Shott from West Virginia University; and Ashley Yaskanich from West Virginia University to the graduating class of 2029.
The five new residents will arrive on campus in July, initially starting as hospital interns through the joint transitional year program, before transitioning to full-time residents in ophthalmology for the next three years of their training.
“I am delighted to welcome the first class of five residents to the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences and am honored to play a role in this program’s continued growth as a premier training institution in the country,” said residency program director Bradley Thuro, M.D. “I look forward to working with each of our new residents over the next four years and helping guide them along their journey to becoming excellent independent ophthalmologists.”
