Pediatric Intensive Care

LOCATION: Charleston Area Medical Center, Charleston, West Virginia
PRECEPTOR:  Dr. Chebib & WVU Clinical Faculty
DURATION: 2 to 4 weeks

STATUS: This rotation fulfills the senior year requirement for Critical Care

Objectives

  1. Develop the ability to make an appropriate evaluation of the critically ill child;
  2. To understand the therapeutic decision-making process;
  3. To learn some of the basic PICU skills, as well as prepare a talk, research paper or formal conference during the rotation;
  4. Learn the basic pathophysiology of critical illness and treatment.

Methods to Achieve Objectives

The student will learn by participation in the evaluation and management process, by participation in procedures performed in the PICU, and by one-on-one teaching by the attending staff of the PICU.

Pre-Rotation Instructions

WVU/Visiting Students – Please report at 8:00 AM to the PICU at CAMC Womens and Children’s Hospital (Visiting students must attend an Orientation before beginning rotations at CAMC; you will receive detailed Orientation information one week prior to your start date)
