General Surgery Subinternship

LOCATION: Charleston Area Medical Center Memorial Hospital, Charleston WV
PRECEPTOR: Department of Surgery Faculty
DURATION: 4 weeks minimum for Sub I

STATUS: This rotation fulfills the senior year requirement for an Inpatient Subinternship

Objectives

To provide an experience with the total management of the surgical/cancer patient, including preoperative and postoperative management, the methods of surgical interventional available, provide exposure to the multidisciplinary approach to care of cancer, and general surgical patients, and to understand surgical and non-surgical treatment options.

Methods to Achieve Objectives

Delivery of patient care in both the in-patient and out-patient setting by serving as a subintern of the Surgery Service. Ward responsibilities will be shared with the resident staff and supervised by the faculty.

Pre-Rotation Instructions:

WVU Students/Visiting Students: 4th year coordinator will email students one week prior with assignment of hospital service/team.

Visiting students will first attend an Orientation before starting; you will receive an email one week prior with detailed Orientation information.
