Trauma and Emergency Surgery

LOCATION: Charleston Area Medical Center/ General Hospital Charleston, West Virginia
PRECEPTORS: The Department of Surgery faculty.
DURATION: 2 week for Trauma Elective - 4 weeks for Trauma Surgery Sub I
OFFERED: Continuously - Night or Day rotations
MAXIMUM ENROLLMENT: 2 students
STATUS: Elective or Sub I

Objectives

To receive intensive clinical exposure to the management of the trauma patient and other surgical emergencies.

Methods to Achieve Objectives

The student will evaluate patients by daily observation, and will obtain knowledge and gain exposure to trauma and emergency surgery. The students will share patient care responsibilities with the resident staff and will be supervised by the faculty.

Pre-Rotation Instructions

WVU Students/Visiting Students: 4th year coordinator will email students one week prior with assignment of team and time to report.  Visiting students will first attend an Orientation before starting; you will receive an email one week prior with detailed Orientation information.
