Obstetrics Night-Float

Description
The elective is a 2 week or 4 week fourth year elective rotation to be spent entirely on labor and delivery. This rotation is a night-float rotation scheduled from 6 PM - 8 AM from Sunday through Thursday evenings. The rotation is designed to give the student maximum exposure to obstetric deliveries. The rotation is available on a case-by-case basis only, as determined by the course director.
Objectives
- The student will be involved performing and assisting vaginal deliveries and Cesarean deliveries.
- The student is expected to evaluate patients presenting to the triage area of Labor and Delivery.
- The student is expected to perform admission history and physical exam evaluations and to follow and manage laboring patients.
- The student will be directly supervised at all times by resident and/or attending physicians.
Methods to Achieve Objectives
The objectives will be achieved by actively participating in procedures occurring on Labor and Delivery.
EXAMINATION PROCEDURES AND EVALUATION CRITERIA:
Daily Observation by clinical preceptors will be the sole determining factor for the rotation grade.
