Achieving Success

The Department fosters a culture of success across our missions and provides a supportive, yet challenging environment for the development of faculty and students. The efforts of our faculty to establish this environment has translated into successes by our junior faculty at attracting extramural research funding and successful progression in the academic track leading to promotion and tenure. The support and success of our junior faculty has had a positive impact and energized the Department.

Students from five different graduate programs are currently performing their dissertation research in Biochemistry labs. Each spring, students from across the Health Sciences Center participate in Van Liere Research Day, where they present their research progress in competitive podium and poster presentations. Students from Biochemistry labs have also been recognized for presentation of their research at national meetings. Overall, our success in graduate education is exemplified by the transition of recent graduates along the trajectories of their academic careers. We anticipate that our culture of success will continue to provide a stimulating environment for faculty and students.
