Pediatric Emergency Department

The pediatric emergency department rotation is a two week long experience that takes place at WVU Medicine’s flagship institution, Ruby Memorial Hospital. The emergency department is home to the John Michael Moore Trauma Center, a Level 1 Adult and Level 2 Pediatric Trauma center, as well as a primary stroke center.   The department of emergency medicine hosts primary care sports medicine and ultrasound fellowship programs.

With a pediatric focus, you will become proficient in the critical elements of prompt patient assessment, intervention and disposition during the emergency medicine experience.  You will also be exposed to state-of-the-art diagnostic technology and around-the-clock specialist physician availability.   You will work directly with staff physicians during the rotation.  Most importantly, during the pediatric emergency medicine rotation, you will be trained on proper evaluation and management to determine the appropriate utilization of diagnostic testing, specialist physician consultation, and numerous bedside procedures.
