Selected Topics in Behavioral Medicine
LOCATION: Charleston Area Medical Center; Charleston, West Virginia

Objectives
This varied psychiatric experience offered through the outpatient department is of special interest to those students considering a residency in psychiatry.
- To provide students with an overview of adult, child, consultation/liaison, community and private practice aspects of psychiatry.
- To provide students with the opportunity to examine principles of psychiatric interviewing.
- To help patients.
- To acquaint students with diversity of psychopathology treatable in and outside of the hospital setting.
Methods to Achieve Objectives
- Observation of psychiatrists and other mental health professionals in the context of outpatient clinic and consultation/liaison service at Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry Department, Shawnee Hills Community Mental Health/Mental Retardation Center, and private practice in the community.
- Patient interviews with staff supervision.
- Use of videotape equipment to examine and develop personal interviewing style.
