MICU Critical Care
LOCATION: Berkeley Medical Center
PRECEPTOR: Various ICU providers
DURATION: 1/2 month
OFFERED: Continuously (limit of 10 rotations per year; must be coordinated through the Eastern Division Office of Student Services)

Objectives
To evaluate and obtain knowledge in the field of critical care.
Methods to Achieve Objectives
Guided, direct participation in all aspects of critical care. This includes the measurement of ventilatory and circulatory parameters. Ventilator use and management, insertion of hemodynamic catheters and interpretation of hemodynamic data, use of vasoactive drugs and nutrition in critically ill patients, and management of complex fluid electrolyte balance in critically ill patients. The students will be a part of the "Primary Care Team" covering the MICU.
Examination Procedures and Evaluation Criteria
Clinical evaluation by attending, attendance and participation in all assigned patient care activities and completion of assigned readings.
