Objectives
This is a two week Plastic Surgery Rotation based at Berkeley Medical Center that will provide the student with an exposure to inpatient and outpatient cosmetic and reconstructive surgery techniques and procedures.
Basic training in Plastic Surgery with emphasis on introducing students to the art and Science of plastic surgery. This includes such areas as wound care treatment, hand surgery, cleft lip and palate surgery and general reconstructive surgery.
- Review of basic surgical techniques and those specific to plastic surgery
- Experience plastic surgery as a way to improve the patient recovery and outlook
- Learn techniques specific to plastic surgery, and correcting genetic and severe injuries.
Medical Knowledge
Understanding of basic and advanced surgical techniques.
Understanding of pre and post- operative care as well as post -operative patient care.
Understanding the application of plastic surgery for improved patient outcomes.
Patient Care Objectives
Obtain an accurate and complete medical history. Understanding of anatomy and Physiology for the cases of the day.
Participate in rounds, observe and assist in the operating room and attend clinics.
Work with other health care professionals to provide patient-focused care.
Daily observation and written evaluation.
Methods to Achieve Objectives
Practiced Based Learning : Analyze practice experience and work on quality improvement issues.
Locate, appraise and assimilate evidence from scientific studies
Use information technology to research and manage information.
Communication: Interact in a professional manner with a multidisciplinary staff
including physicians, midlevel provider’s nurses, and medical assistants in the office and surgery settings.
