Objectives

Interventional Radiology is an excellent opportunity for a variety of students whose work may involve either referring patients for procedures (surgeons, ICU intensivists, nephrologists, gastroentrologists and others), or who may be pursuing either Diagnostic Radiology or Interventional Radiology as a career path.  this elective will provide a focused experience in state-of-the-art practice of interventional radiology techniques and consultations practices in a busy tertiary university hospital setting.

Methods to Achieve Objectives

Supervised clinical experiences and informal "bedside" teaching with patients undergoing interventional radiological procedures or consultations.  Review with faculty of imaging performed prior to and in the course of providing interventional radiology care.  Students will be expected to attend select conferences determined by the Interventional Radiology preceptors.  Other instructional methods may include readings of journal articles or other assigned learning activities that might include online modules or teaching videos.

Examination Procedures and Evaluation Criteria

Students will be provided with feedback and guidance on an ongoing basis throughout their clinical and educational experience in this elective.  Student achievement of objectives will be rated by the preceptor at the end of the clinical experience using the standard elective evaluation form.  Students will also prepare a 5-minute PowerPoint presentation based on an Interventional Procedure.
