Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

Objectives

To introduce students to the art and science of plastic surgery including such areas as wound care treatment, hand surgery, cleft lip and palate surgery, general reconstructive surgery, and cosmetic surgery.

Methods to Achieve Objectives

Students assigned to the Plastic Surgery Service will be intimately involved in the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative evaluation and treatment of patients. The student will participate in rounds, observe and assist in the operating room, and attend clinics. The student will be responsible for obtaining, organizing, and presenting clinical material regarding his or her patients. Students are expected to come to the operating room with a working knowledge of the anatomy and physiology pertinent to that day's cases. The textbook for the rotation is Grabb and Smith's Plastic Surgery.
